Ambulatory and Hospital Services:
We offer a full ambulatory service, that is we attend your property to examine and treat your horses. We travel far and wide from around Geelong to Lara, Little River, Bannockburn, Teesdale, Inverleigh, Gnarwarre, Moriac, Modewarre, Torquay, Drysdale, Wallington, Portarlington, Barwon Heads, and all areas in between. We treat all types of horses such as thoroughbreds, warmbloods, stockhorses, ponies, clydesdales, miniature horses and all in between. Newborn foals through weaning, performance or showing until retired and/or geriatric horses are all catered for.

We have a new purpose built hospital facility in Moolap set on 5 acres. Here we encourage you to bring your horses to us for treatment at our hospital.  At our hospital there are safe post and rail day yards and boxes for leaving your horse with us. Criticaly ill patients, such as sick foals, horses with colic and travel sickness, can be cared for intensively around the clock. Lameness cases can be fully worked up and any diagnostics such as nerve blocks, xrays, scans be performed all at the same time. Horses examined for colic etc can be safely rectally examined in our crushes and ultrasound of the abdomen performed if required at the clinic and admitted for further examinations and observation.   Mares and foals can be managed for breeding etc with our mare and foal crushes and larger boxes.

Medicine and Emergency:
We provide a full medical service from foal medicine to geriatric medicine 24hrs a day 365 days a year. Our hospital also allows us to offer more intensive treatment of the seriously ill horse/foal. Equipment such as ultrasounds and endoscopes helps us to better diagnose problems and construct treatment plans for your horse.

Lameness and Performace Horse Medicine:
BEH provides a wide variety of lameness services from treatment of simple hoof abscesses to diagnosis and treatment of more subtle and complicated lameness. We offer a full lameness work up, including nerve blocks if required, to isolate the site of lameness and recommend the best treatment or further investigative method. State of the art instant digital xrays are available for use at the clinic or in some cases to be taken to properties. Tendon scanners are also available for investigation and diagnosis of tendon injuries and soft tissue problems. We work closely with several farriers and can provide specialist shoeing and hoof care. We also have several endoscopes which allow us to more fully investigate respiratory problems. We service many of the local racing stables and spelling farms and provide a full range of racetrack/high performance horse veterinary services.

Pre-Purchase Exams:
BEH Vets are very experienced in performing pre-purchase examinations for a range of disciplines and for export. We offer the thorough clinical and lameness examination as outlined by the Australian Equine Veterinary Association. A written report accompanies this examination and a full range of extra tests are also offered such as x-rays, endoscopy and drug testing. If you would like any information on a pre purchase please phone the office on (03) 5248 8899.

Reproductive Medicine:
BEH vets keep updated on the latest developments in Reproductive Medicine. We offer artificial insemination with both chilled and frozen semen as well as setting up mares as “walk ons” to other studs for service. We manage most AI mares on a “walk in” basis, where once they are in season they are bought to the clinic and scanned intensively to determine the optimum time for insemination. They return home once all procedures are completed. At the hospital we offer a full investigation into problem breeders including swabs, uterine biopsy and thorough scanning and examination of the reproductive tract. We also have a range of pre and post breeding treatments that can be carried out at the clinic for more difficult mares.

Surgery:
We carry out basic surgeries at the hospital such as hernia repairs, eye surgery, geldings of colts and crytorchids(rigs), foal perisoteal strips, ligament cutting for club feet, wound repair, sequestrum in bone, lump removal, cryosurgery of some cancers, sinus surgery and many others. For advanced or specialised surgeries we have a specialist surgeon who will operate at our hospital or depending on the case the horse can be referred to a number of specialist surgery facitlies depeding on the needs of each horse.
